The School of Public Health Sciences at BYCOHTECH was founded in 2010, in response to the increasing global emphasis on public health and the need for trained professionals in this vital field. Recognizing the significance of health promotion, disease prevention, and health policy, the institution aimed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to address complex public health challenges.

In its formative years, the school focused on developing a robust curriculum that integrated epidemiology, biostatistics, environmental health, and health education. By 2015, the School of Public Health Sciences had established its reputation for excellence, attracting a diverse student body. The introduction of specialized programs in global health, health policy, and community health empowered students to tailor their education to their interests and career aspirations.

In 2018, the school expanded its facilities to include modern research labs and community outreach centers. This expansion allowed for enhanced collaboration with public health initiatives, fostering partnerships that addressed local and global health issues.

Today, the School of Public Health Sciences at BYCOHTECH stands as a leader in public health education, committed to fostering a new generation of public health professionals dedicated to improving health outcomes and promoting health equity on a global scale.

The School of Public Health Sciences, Bayelsa State College of Health Technology, Otuogidi is made up the two departments Community Health Science(CHS) and Environmental Health Science (EHS). The CHS is currently running a National Dploma (ND) while the EHS is running both National Deploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND). National Diploma degree is for duration of two years academics calendar while the HND is also for two years academics calendar.
